Event 1: Transforming Lives — Explore Teaching
Transforming lives flyer
"Transforming Lives" is running three major events in November, one in Birmingham, one in Leeds and one in London, for young Christians who might be interested in teaching. The aim is to promote the idea of a career in teaching as whole-life Christian discipleship. We are partnering with Footprints Theatre Trust on this to produce an interactive, fun and challenging day. The events are sponsored by several Christian trusts so we are able to offer them free to participants; and that includes a proper hot buffet lunch!

Event 9: ‘Approaching Apocalypse’
Description of event

Birmingham to host premiere performance Dramatic images set to music and voice. Birmingham will premiere a unique one hour show which brings the Book of Revelation alive to the 21st Century audience.

Described as ‘. . .an awe-inspiring glimpse into one of the most enigmatic texts in history’, Approaching Apocalypse is an event which invites anyone who wishes, to have a unique encounter with the Book of Revelation.

The audience will be surrounded by a soundtrack of readings and music devised by contemporary composer, Simon Hall, and award winning documentary producer, Rosie Boulton. They will see images from the Book of Revelation created by specialist in digital visualization, David Miles. The edited text is a new translation by Margaret Barker and is read by some of the UK's leading actors - Joss Ackland, Julian Rhind-Tutt, Burt Caesar and Mojisola Adebayo.

The images for Approaching Apocalypse are the result of more than ten years’ work by David Miles, who by meticulously researching the original Greek text, has used digital illustration techniques to generate pictures which bring the ancient words accurately and dramatically to life. It is believed that this is the first time anyone has ever undertaken such a task.

No prescribed interpretation is offered, but rather, the audience is invited to absorb the images, words and music, as a stimulus to look at the Book of Revelation anew.

Event 13: ‘Next Stop’
arts logo
Description of event

Exhibition at Saint Martin in the Bull Ring, Birmingham by artist Jose Luis Puche.
‘Next Stop’ is the first solo exhibition in Britain by the internationally renowned Spanish artist, Jose Luis Puche. The artist’s work, displayed in twelve large-scale figurative paintings in white and blue colors, explores the concept of materialism and how society is enslaved by possessions.

Through his work Jose Luis Puche shows that modern-day society is no longer built on politics and morality but is driven by a need to consume. Jose Luis Puche states, “the people (in my paintings) are victims of their own ambitions and they depend on them, it is a vicious circle without an end.”

‘Next Stop’ has been organised by Spanish curator, Maria Regla Garcia-Bernal. This is her final project of studying MA Contemporary Curatorial Practice at UCE Birmingham. She is interested in curating site-specific exhibitions by emerging artists in the public realm.
