Cassius Francis writes: my wife, Vanessa, and I visited Haiti on a short feasibility trip last month and we have begun planning a mission next year from 11 to 25 August 2012. Download: Mission to Haiti Postcard A5 30 05 11
Vanessa and I met Dan and Joy Irvine, American missionaries in Haiti since 1981. We also met the Wesleyan District Superintendent, Revd Doucet Doronvil, who has a vision to build another 30 Wesleyan churches in Port-Au-Prince over the next 10 years to add to the 106 that there are already in Haiti! Unfortunately, as always the media have presented a distorted picture of what life is really like on the ground – there is obviously poverty and thousands are still living in tents after losing their homes. However, we found the Haitians to be calm, kind and entrepreneurial – there are also some very, very rich people in the city. We felt very safe and Dan and Joy go out of their way to make people feel at home.
Although this mission will be organised through the Wesleyan Holiness Church, it would be great to have team members from other denominations involved. Please contact me for further information.
