Restore is currently looking for new compassionate befrienders who have a heart for refugees and welcoming them into Birmingham! Restore’s next training day is coming up on Saturday 7th June at St John’s Church in Harborne. Here’s what two befriendees said about the impact of being matched with a befriender:
“Thanks to Restore I was able to feel welcome in a country totally foreign to my family and me. I don’t feel alone and lonely anymore because of the companionship and compassion of another human being. It was good for me in terms of my mood, I feel better”
“I am writing to express my heartfelt gratitude for the wonderful befriender you introduced me to. As an Arab refugee in the UK who initially struggled with the English language, having her support and friendship has made a significant difference in my life. Her kindness, patience, and guidance have helped me navigate this new environment and feel more at home”
If you want to hear another testimony of our befriending, please click here to watch a short clip of one of our befriendees, Mahjbeen!
We are sure, therefore, that with the combined efforts of other brilliant organisations in Birmingham, our collective work is needed and valuable. But at Restore, the motivation for our work runs deeper; we are also responding to the call of Jesus to welcome the stranger and offer kindness and hospitality to them (Matthew 25:35) in their time of need. This is a real privilege and one we are keen to invite others into through befriending!
If you would like to find out more, come along on Saturday 7th June and at the end decide if you want to opt into befriending, more details can be found on our flyer!

It will be at St Martin in the Bullring Church (B5 5BB) and will start at 7.15pm! Please see the flyer attached.
