From the BCM Resource Centre we provide several ‘starter packs’ each month. A starter pack consists of a bed (with bedding), a sofa, a table and chairs, a wardrobe, a chest of drawers, a kitchen pack and a food parcel. All for £100, delivered. A bargain! We don’t always get time to know the recipient very well, but last month we delivered a pack to Jason, who was well known to us at both the Resource Centre and the Care Centre.
Jason went through a breakdown only 18 months ago and attempted to take his own life. Thankfully he was unsuccessful but after waking up in hospital, with nothing left, he found himself being referred to a homeless hostel. Over the past year, he’s received ongoing support and guidance in order to get back on his feet, but Jason himself has thrown himself into courses and activities at Crisis, Fircroft College and the Pat Benson gym! He’s now fit and healthy in body and mind and is rebuilding relationships with his family. He said,
‘My family bond is a lot stronger now. I went through the worst hole in the world, now I’m filling it.’
Many guys end up on the street in these situations but through a lot of hard work both from himself and others, Jason has moved into his own flat.
We need to pray for more results like this. Pray for Jason. Pray for all the charities that work with people in similar situations and pray for items to be continually donated to the Resource Centre which allow us to offer the service we do.
