Update on Chaplaincy in Further Education Colleges

January 17th, 2019

Report from Phil Metcalf, W Midlands FE Chaplaincy Ambassador

2018 has been a very successful first year for the project. During the year I have been working with:

  • 6 FE colleges
  • across 8 campuses
  • welcoming 11 new chaplains to support students and staff.

In addition, there are currently 5 more colleges across 6 campuses actively exploring the possibility of chaplaincy support.

All of the chaplains are volunteers giving up their time to be ambassadors for the kingdom of God in their local FE college.

One of the churches interested in offering chaplaincy support has 35 church members undergoing chaplaincy training for a variety of chaplaincy opportunities in their local area. Who knows what impact they might have once they begin their chaplaincy roles?

Even though the first year of the project has been successful, there are still 2 colleges that it has not been possible to find suitable chaplaincy support for. They are Birmingham Metropolitan College Matthew Boulton campus and Joseph Chamberlain sixth form college in Birmingham. If you are able to help, please contact Canon Phil Metcalf at: phil.metcalf@blueyonder.co.uk.
