Healthcare Sunday carries extra significance in 2020

‘Healthcare Sunday’ is an annual opportunity for churches to acknowledge, affirm and support the work done by members of their congregation and local community who work in health and social care. Most Christian congregations will include doctors, nurses, care assistants, social workers, social care workers, occupational therapists, hospital administrators, porters, cleaners, ward secretaries, laboratory staff or chaplains, and people serving in many other roles.

Healthcare Sunday is celebrated on the Sunday nearest St Luke’s Feast Day, 18 October. In 2020, 18th October is this coming Sunday. In a year where the vital work that health and social care staff have been doing in response to the COVID-19 crisis has been evident to all, Healthcare Sunday provides a great opportunity to celebrate their work and to give thanks to God for them.

Healthcare Sunday is sponsored by the Christian Medical Fellowship, a group which unites and equips Christian health care workers. CMF has produced a range of resources to help local churches mark Healthcare Sunday.
