To Establish ‘The Gathering’ – A church starting after Easter 2020

The Bringing Hope Charity is known for its experience and work in prisons also communities, with individuals and families who are impacted or associated with social exclusion, criminality, violence and other social needs and concerns.

Since its inception as a consortium in 2004, with representation from Birmingham Churches Together, Council of Black Led Churches, Diocese of Birmingham and Birmingham City Council’s Community Safety Partnership, Bringing Hope progressed to be a registered charity in 2008, with some key aims, with one being, to advance the Christian faith. It is based on this aim along with our research, prayer, many conversations and planning, we find ourselves at this defining period and want to communicate our vision to establish a non-denominational church in Birmingham with an interdenominational council of reference for support and guidance.

Experience has shown that, while some existing churches are doing good work in areas where there is violence and social injustice, they are generally not equipped for being a place of safety and support for the most vulnerable who are impacted by the continued rise of these social improprieties.

The Gathering will be established, to engage and meet the needs of those from all nations and walks of life, who are affected or impacted by the issues highlighted above.

It will offer opportunities for worship, reasoning, learning, reflection, support, personal and spiritual development.

Furthermore, it will be for individuals who are dedicated and believe they have a calling, towards praying, working and ministering to those referenced in the Luke 4: 18 narrative (…. the poor, prisoners, blind, oppressed and marginalised people), specifically, those who are disconnected from current churches and who are impacted, directly or indirectly, by criminality and other social inequalities in Birmingham and the UK.

Importantly, The Gathering will also be resourcing hub to support other churches and their leaders in developing effective methods and models for being proponents of a theology of liberation and hope, where together, we can make a real difference now and for the generations to come, Amen!
