Shane Claiborne in Birmingham

At 7.00pm on Wednesday (7 June), at Lodge Road Community Church, Hockley B18 5BU, Shane Claiborne will deliver the 2023 Newbigin Annual Public Lecture.

The annual lecture is sponsored by Seedbeds, a group that grows leaders and communities locally, nationally and internationally. Each lecture features a high profile Christian leader who embodies the spirit of theologian and missiologist Lesslie Newbigin (1909 – 1998). The Newbigin Annual Public Lecture stimulates Christians into more thoughtful and deeper engagement in the places they live and serve.

The keynote speech at the 2023 Annual Lecture will be delivered by well-known author and activist, Shane Claiborne, who founded the ‘Simple Way’ intentional community in Philadelphia and co-founded ‘Red Letter Christians,’ a movement of people who are committed to living ‘as if Jesus meant the things he said.’ Shane is a champion for grace which has led him to prison advocating for the homeless, and to places like Iraq and Afghanistan to stand against war. Now grace fuels his passion to end the death penalty and help stop gun violence.

Shane’s books include ‘Jesus for President,’ ‘Red Letter Revolution,’ ‘Common Prayer,’ ‘Follow Me to Freedom,’ ‘Jesus, Bombs and Ice Cream,’ ‘Becoming the Answer to Our Prayers,’ ‘Executing Grace,’ ‘The Irresistible Revolution,’ ‘Beating Guns’ and ‘Rethinking Life.’ Shane speaks regularly at denominational gatherings, festivals, and conferences around the globe.

Tickets to the Newbigin Annual Public Lecture, which include buffet food served from 6:30pm, can be found HERE. Read more about ‘Red Letter Christians’ HERE.
