Advent and the invitation to loving-wakefulness

The word ‘Advent’ means ‘arrival’, a ‘coming’ – and so our expectant anticipation and preparation for the coming of Christ.

But what is a season of anticipation and preparation about, if God has already come, already arrived, by becoming incarnate in Jesus Christ, and is ever-present?

Advent becomes our response to God’s continuing invitation to a new level of awareness and attentiveness – awareness of our life in God and loving attentiveness to each other and the world around us.

In this session, Chris will invite us to imagine that we are the ones asleep in the manger, exploring a picture of God waiting patiently for us to wake up: God has sent his son Jesus, the Wakeful One, the Loving One, to bring us to loving-wakefulness.

  • This lunchtime Meditation Session will be accessible to Christians of all denominations and to people of all faiths and none.
  • The event will be held on Zoom and participants will be sent a Zoom link a day or two before the session.
